What is EigenLayer?

EigenLayer introduced 'restaking', letting already-staked ETH (or liquid staking tokens) be reused to secure additional services in exchange for extra rewards. EIGEN is the protocol's native token.

How to stake EIGEN

  1. Go to the official EigenLayer site or app linked on this page.
  2. Connect a wallet holding EIGEN and review the current staking or lock-up terms — these are set by the protocol and can change.
  3. Choose how much EIGEN to stake or lock, and for how long, if the protocol asks you to select a lock duration.
  4. Confirm the transaction. Rewards or voting power are typically calculated based on the amount and duration you commit.
  5. Track the unlock date if one applies, and note that early exit is often not possible once a lock period is chosen.

Frequently asked questions

Is staking EIGEN safe?

Staking EigenLayer carries the general risks common to all staking — market price risk, and depending on the network and method, slashing, lock-up, smart-contract, or counterparty risk. It is not risk-free. Read our staking risks guide before you start.

What's the minimum amount of EIGEN needed to stake?

Minimums vary by method: delegating from a personal wallet often has no minimum or a very small one, while running your own validator (where relevant) usually requires a much larger amount. Check the official EigenLayer site for the current requirement.

How long does it take to unstake EIGEN?

Restaking and withdrawal timelines follow EigenLayer's own protocol rules, which have changed as the platform has developed — check the official site for current terms.
